In 2003 the Carlton like many of the Victorian based AFL Clubs - chose to disband its Reserves team and work with an affiliate team in the VFL - the Northern Bullants (later the Northern Blues). This lasted until the end of 2011 until to it was renamed as the Northern Blues to have a much closer link to the Carlton Football Club.
Note; The Northern Bullants was originally known as the Preston Football Club when it was a member of the now defunct VFA.
