Game Review
A huge crowd of 33,000 packed into Victoria Park for this eagerly-awaited clash between the top two sides on the ladder. Carlton started well and led at the first break, but after that the Magpies - with their champion full-forward Gordon Coventry in top form - exerted their authority and eventually won by five goals.
Carlton's only consolation on a bleak day was that Richmond and Essendon also lost, allowing the Blues to cling to second spot on the ladder.
At the end of this round Carlton were in 2nd spot on the ladder with a percentage of 140.2.
