Game Review
Taking advantage of the wind, Essendon got off to a flying start by kicking a goal within 60 seconds from the bounce. This started an avalanche with the Dons having 5 goals on the board to Carlton's none. Daykin then stopped the rot by kicking the Blues' first major and the Blues trailed by 23 points at the first break.In the second quarter, Daykin hit the post, then Fisher added another goal then Lowe scored the Blues' third. Essendon then kicked another goal to lead by 17 points at half time.
The Blues were gathering a full head of steam in the third term and Burleigh goaled, then a goal to Fisher and then Daykin goaled and put the Blues in the lead by one solitary point at three quarter time.
Essendon goaled and regained the lead early in the final term. Again Daykin, then Fisher goaled. Burleigh hit the post, then he had another shot, this time it was successful. Lowe then bought up Carlton's tenth goal just before the bell rang to end the game. The Blues winning by 21 points.
An interesting side-light to this match was the report of George Challis for throwing the ball at Umpire Elder.
At the end of this round Carlton were in 1st spot on the ladder with a percentage of 131.1.
