Game Review
The Pies would trump us in a strong second half to leave the Blues 0 and 2 at the start of the AFL season. Despite the best efforts of ‘Dog’ Fraser Brown with 36 possessions, and a couple of goals from SOS, Carlton were not in the game. Small forwards Heaver, Gleeson and De Iulio couldn’t scrap one between them.Collingwood fans remember this game, not for a mild 5-6 goal win, but for THAT run - the 'McGuane Goal'. Yes, this was the game where Magpie Mick McGuane would take seven bounces after a centre clearance, and nail the goal in a sickening, horrible moment of footy that still stays with me. Missed tackles aplenty, the Blues were run around all day and never really got going.
The previous week’s first gamers Troy Bond and James Cook did not take their places in the Carlton team, while the injured Kernahan, returning from suspension, would not kick a goal for the Blues.
