Game Review
With the aid of a strong breeze blowing straight down the ground, Carlton booted six goals in the first quarter against St Kilda at the Junction Oval, and from that point on were always in control. The wind dropped at half-time, but the Blues’ dominance didn’t, and they finished off the Saints with another six-goal final term to win by 40 points. In a very even effort by everyone in navy blue, Keith Warburton, Ken Hands, Jack Mills and Fred Stafford all kicked three goals in Carlton’s 1000th League appearance.Meanwhile, other results consolidated the top four at the half-way stage of the season. The early pace-setters Richmond lost to Geelong, and South Melbourne held Fitzroy to a draw at Brunswick St. Now Collingwood, Geelong, Fitzroy and Richmond were starting to look settled as the top four, while Carlton languished in eighth place with a poor percentage.
