Game Review

This match between the ninth and tenth-placed teams at the Western Oval was expected to be a close contest, and turned out to be exactly that. Carlton kicked six goals in a dominant second quarter to lead at half-time, but Footscray clawed their way back in the second half to edge out the Blues by 5 points.

The Gill brothers (Barry and John) both started this game on the reserve bench, while rugged defender Vasil Varlamos played his 44th and last match for Carlton in guernsey number 32.
