In an extraordinarly low-scoring match, the Blues kept the Cats goalless after the first quarter, and won by 14 points.

The Blues won the game only in the last five minutes, despite the home team playing with 17 men after half time.

Now six points clear of the pack in second place on the ladder, the Blues seemed certain to play finals football again.

At the end of this round Carlton were in 2nd spot on the ladder with a percentage of 136.9.
