Game Review
Captain Colin Martyn was a late withdrawal from this game due to influenza. His replacement was Leo Opray.
In rain and blustery conditions, Carlton completely outplayed Hawthorn in this game. The Blues adapted better to the wintry conditions, making good use of the university wing. The highlight of the first quarter was Vallence's snap goal over his shoulder from a tight angle. Although Hawthorn improved their play in the second quarter, Carlton was comfortably ahead at half time.
As the third quarter progressed, Carlton drew steadily way and interest mainly centered on whether Vallence would kick his usual six goals. As it was, he missed three easy chances and didn't add to his half time tally of four goals. By dint of his teammates' hard work, he kicked four last quarter goals to finish with eight for the game, and move two goals clear on the VFL goal kicking list. When the final siren blew, Carlton were comfortable 63 point winners.
