Game Review
This loss ended the Blues opening streak of three straight wins and displaced us from top position into second on the ladder. North Melbourne were now the only undefeated team in the competition. This was an auspicious day in another sense, however, with this game marking the first time Carlton would wear sponsor's logo on our guernsey. The honour of that original sponsor? - AVCO of course.
The most even tussle of the day was at Princes Park, where the two tenants fought a nip and tuck match until the better teamwork of Hawthorn saw them take the lead and hang on to win by 13 points. The return to form of Carlton's new full forward Peter McKenna, was encouraging, while at the other end of the ground, Hawk forward Peter Hudson was disappointing with only two goals. McKenna kicked five goals. - Football Record.
Despite the petrol strike, 32,000 Carlton and Hawthorn followers swarmed to Princes Park on Saturday to see the 1976 Premiers make amends for an earlier season practice match hiding to win by 13 points. The Blues showed they too will be "up there again" as little separated the two sides until late in the game. One feature was former Collingwood full forward Peter McKenna's five goals which took his second week's goal tally to ten, while at the other end, Peter Hudson failed to impress with only two goals. - Football Record.
More than 32,000 people crammed into Princes Park to watch the battle between co-tenants Carlton and Hawthorn. Little separated the two sides until the final quarter when the Hawks performed better under pressure to win the match by 13 points. - Football Record.
This game was the first time that Carlton wore a sponsors logo (AVCO) on their guernsey.
