Game Review

Carlton were too powerful for University, whose position at the final change of ends seemed hopeless, in as much as Carlton held a lead of practically six goals. However, the students fought it out gamely, and made the last quarter interesting, although they could not avert defeat.

Carlton did not show anything like the clockwork game of the previous Saturday. They fumbled a good deal, and their passing was badly judged. There was one striking feature in connection with the Carlton-University match that is worthy of recording. Carlton scored the highest number of points registered in League matches on Saturday, and University obtained more points than any other beaten team, while their score was bigger than any put up by any winning team except Carlton.

Carlton worked the ball nicely to Challis, who was usually well out on the wing unattended. The ex-Tasmanian, however, was not so successful as in the two previous matches. Valentine was the pick of the basket for the dark blues, being to the fore in most of the dashes goalwards. "Vallie" is a grand type of footballer, always keen and earnest, and never letting an opening pass without taking advantage of it. Dick,Jamieson, McDonald, McGregor and Wells were perhaps the best of the 5 others.

Richard Moran did not return to the field after quarter time and Jim Marchbanks broke the bones in his hand after punching the ball with his fist. Marchbanks did not resume after half time.

At the end of this round Carlton were in 2nd spot on the ladder with a percentage of 144.9.
