Game Review
It poured with rain...you guessed it....we could not handle it and got rolled!! An eerily similiar thing happened in 1995 when the Saints Rod Keogh (Trevor's nephew) pulverised us. In 1976, St Kilda had about 10 Rod Keogh's!!!Playing in the first wet weather day of the season against previously unbeaten Carlton, St Kilda were far too strong and caused the upset of the season to this stage in their first ever contest with the Blues at League headquarters. They led the Blues all day in the race for the ball and on the scoreboard and kicked only their eighth century ever against the Blues. They were helped up forward by accurate George Young who finished with 7.4 from 16 kicks, which under the conditions was a superb performance. It was the Saints 17th win at the ground in 23 matches, their highest at the ground since 1974, the fifth loss by Carlton in the last six matches at the ground and the Saints first win over Carlton in the last six matches. - Football Record.
Carlton suffered its first loss for the season when it went down to St Kilda by 38 points at VFL Park. The Saints coped better in the first heavy conditions of the season and led all day. George Young kicked seven goals for St Kilda while Robert Walls kicked three goals for Carlton. - Football Record.
